July piece

Here’s a small drawing from July, 7″ x 5″:

This is a tiny work – 2 1/2 x 3 1/2

This one is tiny – 2″ x 3.5″

So much for the efficiency of my “daily painting” project, it takes me so long to post things I forget when I did them.  I could just date them on the back, but that would make too much sense.

I was trying here to do another work like my march 21st piece but a bit bigger, but it became kind of schematized and decorative looking and I’m not really satisfied with it.

A linear experiment:

Still held back by lack of ac in studio and office.  Playing tag with ups, which is supposed to deliver a new unit for the bedroom, and the studio will get the bedroom’s.  It’s deadly hot and this has kept me away from the upstairs computer which has the scanner bed.

The main oil pastels I like to use are Caran D’ache Neopastels. This day I was trying my smaller set of Sennelier oil pastels (those things have got affordability issues).  They have a really nice painty quality that makes me attracted to using them, the downside being that they are so soft they are hard to control, and use up rather quickly. They also don’t quite dry on their own, and spray fix got odd results for me. Perhaps this is so Sennelier can then sell you their special spray fix, which I haven’t tried yet.

Like oil paints, the different pigments have quite different qualities, some of the pastels are opaque and some very transparent. The set has a very dark yet transparent sap green. I love a good sap green. Still, hard to control.  It would be fun to try working large with these, but then I might use them up in one shot, and I definately can’t afford a new batch every picture!
