I started working on this one last week and then wanted to work on it more, scratching into it and adding another layer – finished it friday evening.

Hi, I’ve posted some of my art on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5086217

I love looking at that site, though I’ve resisted buying anything so far.

Yesterday morning I took off a few hours of work to go to an oil pastel workshop taught by Ruth Pettus, it was fun – she uses mineral oil to lay down washes of the oil pastels and then you can work over that with the pastels or colored pencils. Here are the things I did:

On the way home I stopped by Walgreens and the only form they had mineral oil available in was as baby oil, so now my art will be sure to smell good. I did another picture that evening in my usual style though, I haven’t broken open the baby oil because that will require some room to make a mess.

I was having fun with pattern, this sort of thing might be easier in marker.

I always thought litho crayons were fun for sketchbooks because they make a nice charcoal black without smudging off the page. I figured they would be fun under oil pastels and they are.

This was a fun abstraction – but I don’t think it totally works – sort of looks like a killer tomato.

This one was a scene from a late evening walk.

Uploading Images

January 11, 2008

I actually have some artwork to post this week and not enough time to post it – the reason is, I’m having trouble with the color adjustment of the scanned images.  I could just take a digital photo, but it seems a waste of time to crop it when something fits on the scan bed.  In any case, I would like to think I’ll resolve this this weekend, but I really need to finish some paintings first.
